We are pleased to announce that Associate Professor Barbara Sowińska-Swierkosz, Ph.D., from the Department of Hydrobiology and Ecosystem Protection in the Faculty of Environmental Biology, will be implementing a project entitled NBS4Drought as a part of the Horizon Europe programme (call: HORIZON-CL6-2024-BIODIV-02).
As many as 91 project applications were submitted as part of the competition announcement. The “NBS4Drought” project received a very high number of points in the second stage of evaluation – 14.5 out of 15 possible.
The primary goal of NBS4Drought is to systematically demonstrate how to design cost-effective wetland-based NBS for sustainable water resource management, specifically in mitigating extreme drought impacts, by monitoring and assessing the example NBS implemented in 7 diverse showcases. The results will underscore the efficiency, replicability, and sustainability of these wetland-based NBS in various regions and provide stakeholders with technical, economic, ecological, and social evidence to choose NBS in their adaptation to climate change, thereby fostering the replication and scalability of wetlands as effective NBS.
In addition to Associate Professor Barbara Sowińska-Swierkosz, PhD, the project team includes:
The project also provides for the employment of a doctoral student or student.
Projects starts in the third quarter of year 2025 and will last for 4 years.
The total amount of the project is: 7 981 953.75 €
The amount of funding for the team from ULSL is: 349 125.00 € / 1 491 531 PLN
