Appendix to the Regulations of the Library and Information System of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin

Rules for sharing library collections

 I. GENERAL PROVISIONS

Art. 1

The Main Library, hereinafter referred to as the Library, makes its resources available:

  1. On site in the reading room and in the library branch.
  2. Outside the Library by the lending department,library branch and reading room.
  3. By interlibrary lending.
  4. By remote access to databases, books and electronic journals.

Art. 2

Use of the Library’s collection is free of charge. The reader covers the costs specified in the price list of services and special fees introduced by the Rector of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin in accordance with Art. 14 of the Act of 27 June 1997 on libraries (Dz. U. /Journal of Laws/, No. 85, item. 539 as amended)

 II. MAKING THE COLLECTION AVAILABLE ON SITE IN THE READING ROOM

Art. 3

All interested persons are entitled to use the library collections on site in the reading room and the library branch.

Art. 4

1. In the reading room you can use:

  • collections gathered in it,
  • reference library,
  • books and magazines ordered from the library warehouse
  • special collections,
  • standards,
  • sources on electronic devices available on site or online,
  • materials brought in through interlibrary lending,
  • own materials, after first reporting them to the librarian on duty.

2. Materials from the warehouse must be ordered to the reading room :

  • on the computer call slip – books and magazines, which descriptions can be found in the computer catalog
  • on the paper call slip – books, magazines and other library materials not described in the computer catalogue

3. Works brought from the warehouse to the reading room may be kept for the following days at the reader’s request; materials not used within the next 2 days are returned to the warehouse.

Art. 5

Readers have the right to use the rooms for individual and group work located in the reading room according to the rules specified by the Library Director in a separate announcement.

Art. 6

At the library branch, readers can use:

– collections gathered in it,

– sources on electronic devices available on site or online,

– materials brought in through interlibrary lending,

– own materials, after first reporting them to the librarian on duty.

Art. 7

The Informatorium provides electronic resources in the form of bibliographic, abstract, and full-text databases, Internet resources, publication lists, and reference books.

Art. 8

  1. Works available on site may not be taken out of the reading room or library branch.
  2. At the request of an employee of the reading room or a library branch a reader is obliged to show the materials which he takes outside.

 

III. BORROWING OUTSIDE OF THE LIBRARY IN THE LENDING DEPARTMENT, READING ROOM

Art. 9
The right to borrow outside of the Library in the lending department, reading room has:

1. Students and postgraduates of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin
2. Employees of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin
3. Retired researchers of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin
4. Academic teachers of other universities in Lublin – on the basis of an agreement between the universities.
5. Professional staff of Lublin research institiutions – on the basis of an agreement between research institution and the University of Life Sciences in Lublin

Art. 10
Outside the library cannot be borrowed:

• continuous publications,
• books from the reference library
• special collections,
• standards,
• books published before 1945,
• publications in bad condition,
• doctoral dissertations,
• other publications for on-site use.

Art. 11
1. A valid library card or student electronic ID card is the document that authorizes borrowing outside the Library.
2. A library card is issued by the lending department to:

• employees and retired academic staff of their own University after showing an ID, and in the case of active employees of the University also a certificate of employment;
• postdraduates of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin on the basis of an ID and postgraduates student ID card,
• academic teachers of other universities in Lublin and professional staff of Lublin research institutions on the basis of an ID and certificate of employment.

3. The student’s library card or student electronic ID card should be shown each time when borrowing outside the library in the lending department, reading room or library branch.

4. A reader may authorize another person to pick up ordered books on his/her behalf. The authorization must be signed by the person concerned in the presence of a library department employee.

5. A library card may not be shared with another person except as provided in pt 4 and in Art. 24 pt 3

6. The loss of a library card must be reported to the lending depatment. In that case, it is possible to get a duplicate.

7. If the loss of a library card is not reported, the owner of the card is fully liable for the use of the card by another person.

8. A change of the data that facilitates contact between the Library and the reader (name, address, type of study, etc.) must be immediately reported to the lending depatrment.

Art. 12

1. Categories of publications in the reading room and in the Library’s warehouse and their maximum lending period per reader account:

• students of University of Life Sciences:

– textbooks from the student book collection – 180 days,
– other books published after 1945 – 30 days,
– monographic notebooks of continuous publications – 7 days

• postgraduates of University of Life Sciences in Lublin:

– textbooks from the student book collection – 180 days,
– other books published after 1945 – 90 days,
– monographic notebooks of continuous publications – 14 days

• employees of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin:

– textbooks from the student book collection – 180 days,
– other books published after 1945 – 180 days,
– monographic notebooks of continuous publications – 14 days

• retired academic staff of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, academic teachers of other universities in Lublin and professional staff of Lublin research institutions: 

– textbooks from the student book collection – 60 days,
– other books published after 1945 – 30 days,
– monographic notebooks of continuous publications – 7 days

2. Publications stored in a library branch with the exception of materials referred to in § 10 can be borrowed outside the library by:

• employees of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin for 180 days,
• other readers for 7 days.

3. Lending from the warehouse outside the library must be ordered

• on the computer call slip – books which descriptions can be found in the computer catalog

• on the paper call slip – books which are not described in the computer catalog.

4. Books and other library materials in the reading room or library branch cannot be ordered.

5. The book borrowing period can be prologned once from the student’s book collections , and twice from other reading rooms. The prolongation must be made before the return deadline.

6. Readers are allowed to borrow at one time:

• students – 15 volumes from the warehouse or reading room, 3 volumes from the library branch

• postgraduates of University of Life Sciences – 15 volumes from the warehouse or reading room, 3 volumes from the library branch

• empluess of the University of Life Sciences – 20 volumes from the warehouse or reading room, 5 volumes from the library branch

• retires academic staff of University of Life Sciences – 6 volumes from the warehouse or reading room, 2 volumes from the library branch

• academi teachers of other universities and professional staff of Lublin reasearch institutions – 6 volumes from the warehouse or the reading room from the warehouse or the reading room, 2 volumes From the library branch.

7. The Library may, for good reason, require a book to be returned before the lending period expires or reserve an earlier return date at the time of borrowing.

Art. 13

1. Readers referred to in Art. 9 pt 1-5, have the right to make reservations for library materials borrowed from the warehouse or reading room outside the library by other readers.

2. Materials reserved after return will be available in the lending department and should be picked up by the reserving reader within two days. After that time, they will be shelved in the warehouse or reading room; or they may be borrowed to another reader.
3. Materials reserved by other reader cannot be prolonged.

4. Books from the student book collection and materials from library branch cannot be reserved.

Art. 14

1. If a reader does not return a book within the specified time, his/her account will be blocked until he/she settles his/her liabilities to the Library.

2. The reader will be charged for late return of books according to the price list referred to in Art. 2.

Art. 15

1. Users of the Library’s collection are entirely responsible for the materials entrusted to them.

2. For loss, damage, or partial damage to collections that are Library property, readers are obliged to purchase the same work, or if that is not possible, another book of comparable value indicated by the librarian, and to cover the cost of binding.

3. The reader shall not acquire title to the lost or damaged publication upon payment of the obligations set forth in p. 2.

Art. 16
Before receiving a diploma or leaving the University, a student, PhD student, or staff member should obtain confirmation of payment of their obligations to the Library on their circulation card.

IV. INTERLIBRARY LENDING

Art. 17
The Library lends its own collection to other libraries and imports library materials from domestic and foreign libraries for employees, PhD students and students of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin.

Art. 18
Requests to borrow materials from another library signed by the head of the department or other unit should include accurate bibliographic data for the items requested.

Art. 19
Fees charged by the library which sends the requested materials, the cost of copies of the documents and, if applicable, postage are settled by the ordering reader.

V. PROVIDING REMOTE ACCESS TO DATABASES, BOOKS AND ELECTRONIC JOURNALS

Art. 20
Policies for remote access to library resources are derived from agreements with licensors.

Art. 21
Databases, books and electronic journals available remotely are accessible on all computer stations that belong to the IT network of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin.

Art. 22
The Library has computer stations with access to electronic resources for readers. Readers not registered in the Library who want to use electronic resources are obliged to show a document confirming their identity.

Art. 23
Access from outside the university network is possible only for readers referred to in Art. 9 pp. 1-3, after registering at the Library.

VI. PROVISIONS CONCERNING PRIVILEGED PERSONS

Art. 24
1. Pregnant women and persons with disabilities are served free of turn.
2. Students with disabilities may borrow 15 volumes at a time from a storage or reading room and 3 from a library branch.
3. Persons with disabilities are exempt from the requirement to borrow library materials on their own – they have the right to authorise a person to borrow books on their behalf.
4. In order to register, a person authorised by a disabled reader should come to the Lending Department together with the person concerned, showing an ID card as well as a document confirming his/her disability.

VII. FINAL PROVISIONS

Art. 25
Readers are obliged to familiarise themselves with the content of the provisions included in the “Rules for sharing library collections” and to observe them.

Art. 26
If a reader fails to comply with these provisions, it may result in restriction or termination of the reader’s right to use Library services.

Art. 27
The Library Director shall establish, in separate notices, detailed rules of order regulating access to collections in the reading room, faculty libraries and the use of Informatorium and computer equipment in the Library.

Art. 28
The Library Director is responsible for deciding matters that are not regulated by the Rules for Access to Library Collections.

Rules of use of rooms for individual and group work located in the Main Library of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin

I. General information

The Main Library of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin (hereinafter referred to as ML ULS or the Library) offers its users two rooms for group work and three for individual work.

  1. Rooms are equipped with computers with Internet access and software to create your own documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  2. Rooms for group work offer Users multimedia projectors and dry erase marker boards.
  3. Rooms are available during Library hours to all Reading Room users.
  4. Rooms may be reserved. Their reservations should be made in person in the Reading Room at librarian on duty or by phone (81 445 6247). A reader’s library account number or name and surname is needed for reservation.
  5. Room reservations can be made by the University of Life Sciences researchers, students of the University, as well as external guests.
  6. A reader who cancels a reserved room is required to annul the reservation by notifying the duty officer in person or via telephone.
  7. Room keys are issued in the Reading Room.
  8. In case of being more than 15 minutes late the reservation may be cancelled.
  9. The Library’s collection and own materials may be used in the rooms.
  10. Materials stored in the ML ULS warehouse should be ordered to the Reading Room.
  11. In case of losing the key, the Reader is obliged to report it to the librarian on duty and pay a special fee in the University administration.
  12. The key should be returned to the librarian on duty after finishing work or when the user intends to leave the Reading Room. Failure to return the key in a timely manner will prevent the extended use of the room.
  13. The reader is responsible for the library materials, furnishings and equipment of the ML ULS located in the occupied room.
  14. The reader is responsible for illegal use of Library materials and equipment.
  15. The Library is not responsible for valuables left in the rooms by the Readers.
  16. Readers that are using the rooms for individual and group work are obliged to follow the rules of using the Reading Room.

 

II. Rooms for group work

  1. Rooms for group work are made available to ULS researchers, postgraduates, and students, as well as other Readers for the time requested by them, but no longer than 15 minutes before the Library closes.
  2. Rooms for group work are designed primarly for studying together. They may be used for teaching purposes only in the following cases:

a. trainings provided by librarians
b. classes using library materials and equipment

  1. Rooms for group work may not be used for regular classes.
  2. Rooms for group work can be used by groups of 2 to 10 people. In justified cases, these rooms may be combined.
  3. Materials from the Reading Room should be returned at the end of the day’s work, no later than 15 minutes before the Library’s closing time.

 

III. Rooms for individual work

  1. Rooms for individual work are made available to ULS researchers, postgraduates, and students, as well as other Readers for the time requested by them, but no longer than 15 minutes before the Library closes.
  2. The time of use of the room for individual work may be extended, as long as there are no other Readers waiting for a place in the room.
  3. Readers should lock the room each time they leave it.
  4. The reader may not arbitrarily give the room to others.
  5. The User’s belongings left in the room will be deposited and books and other library materials, which are the property of the Library, will be returned to their place

Rules of use of the Main Library Reading Room of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin

 1. Readers may:

  • choose their own workspace and move freely in the whole Reading Room.
  • use the collections gathered in the Reading Room or ordered from the warehouse, as well as own materials,
  • use databases and other electronic information sources provided by the Library and the Internet,
  • use the WiFi network, provided they have registered an account in the library system,
  • use the computers, scanning equipment and other devices intended for use by Readers.
  • use their own laptops and digital cameras,
  • use the automatic borrow and renewal machine,
  • borrow and return library materials at the librarian on duty,
  • use rooms for individual and group work,
  • receive kind and professional help from librarians regarding information about the collections and available services.

2. All users of the Reading Room are requested:

  • to leave outer garments, bags, backpacks, umbrellas, etc. in the cloakroom or lockers,
  • not to leave personal belongings unattended – the Library is not responsible for left items
  • to maintain silence in the Reading Room except the rooms for group work,
  • to inform the librarian on duty about own materials brought to the Reading Room, especially about books and magazines,
  • to put away used library materials from the Reading Room on available library carts,
  • to respect Library property (equipment and accessible devices) proper use of collections.
  • to stop for clarification if an alarm is triggered when passing through a control gate
  • to follow the requests and instructions of the Library staff regarding the use of the Reading Room and the collections therein,
  • to return materials borrowed from the warehouse to the librarian on duty at the counter.

 

3. Readers are not allowed to:

  • bring into the Reading Room and consume food products and drinks, with the exception of mineral water,
  • consume alcohol, take narcotic drugs and smoke e-cigarettes,
  • rearrange furniture and other equipment in the Reading Room,

 

  • disconnect computers owned by Library,
  • put used books and magazines on the shelves and reaarange collections in the Reading Room
  • disturb the silence and comfort of other Users,
  • destroy library materials,
  • Illegally use the Library’s collections, electronic resources, including the Internet, to which the Library provides access, and the equipment and software made available to the Readers,
  • photocopy, scan, or photograph standards and dissertations.
