Duration: 3 semesters (1.5 years)

  • Information about the programme

    The field of study Biotechnology provides the opportunity to acquire interdisciplinary knowledge in life sciences with a particular focus on technology and contemporary methods of experimental biology. Graduates are well prepared to work in scientific laboratories of the highest standards.

    The following specialisations are offered at full-time studies: plant biotechnology, animal biotechnology, food and drug biotechnology, modern analytical techniques in diagnostics and biotechnology.

    The vocational traineeships offered are aimed at learning about biotechnological methods used in industry, health care and environmental protection and are carried out, among others, in laboratories, research institutes and food processing companies.

  • Examples of courses

    Genomics and transcriptomics, medical genetics, biotechnology of animal reproduction, proteomics and peptidomics, genetic modification of industrial microorganisms, design of plant biopreparations, green chemistry.

  • Admission

    Admission to the first year of second-cycle studies leading to the degree of Master of Science may be applied for by those who have obtained a diploma with the professional title of engineer in the field of study for which they are applying or with the professional title of engineer or Master of Science in a related field. The diploma and the average grade of the studies are taken into account in the admission procedure.

  • Career perspectives

    Graduates have knowledge of biotechnology applied to the food, chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, health and environmental protection; they have the ability to design bioprocesses and bioproducts.

    Graduates may find employment in:

    – research institutes as a research worker,

    – at universities as a research and teaching employee,                                                              

    – may apply to Doctoral School.

    The competences obtained during the studies allow for managerial and specialist positions in:

    – scientific and research laboratories of the biotechnology industry and related industries,

    – research, control and diagnostic laboratories,

    – cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies,

    – units dealing with the design of biotechnological processes, including but not limited to: plant cultivation and animal breeding centres, food production and processing plants, or environmental protection,

    The knowledge acquired during the studies also facilitates the establishment of one’s own biotechnology company.
