Information for students of 4th year of Veterinary Medicine (English course)

Diseases of Horses

The course Diseases of Horses covers 2 semester (VII and VIII) and 240 didactic hours in total. The subject is divided into two blocks, Diseases of Horses 1 with 90 didactic hours which, is realised in VIIth semester and Diseases of Horses 2 with 150 didactic hours which, is realised in VIIIth semester (see plan and programme of studies for veterinary studies (English course). Block 1 covers infectious diseases of horses and internal diseases of horses. Block 2 covers surgery and orthopaedics of horses and obstetrics and reproduction of horses.

Frontal lectures (45 h in VIIth semester and 60 h in VIIIth semester) are realised in weekly intervals during 15 consecutive weeks. Lectures cover selected topics of infectious and internal diseases of horses, orthopaedics, obstetrics and reproduction of horses.

Practical classes (45 h in VIIth semester and 90 h in VIIIth semester) are obligatory and are in weekly intervals during 15 consecutive weeks. Practical classes will include preliminary training in the Skills Lab which is followed by training on live horses realised in the University clinic and private horse farm. White coat is required for practical classes.

Lectures are held in Lecture hall  – room no 360 (third floor) at Innovative Centre for Pathology and Therapy (Veterinary Clinics, Gleboka 30 st. 20-612 Lublin).

To complete the course students have to attend lectures and classes and pass an examination, which includes both theoretical and practical questions.
