The genesis of the Faculty of Production Engineering

Before 1970

Although the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering (presently the Faculty of Production Engineering) was established on 1 September 1970, its origins date back to almost 25 years earlier when, on 5 November 1946, the Sub-department of Agricultural Machinery was created as part of the Agrarian Faculty of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. On 1 October 1950, the Sub-department of Agricultural Machinery was transformed into a department of the same name and the first director (1950-1951) was mgr inż. Roman Fąfara, the curator was – prof. Stefan Ziemnicki (1950-1952).

With the establishment in 1955, the Higher School of Agriculture in Lublin, the Department of Agricultural Machinery became part of the Agrarian Faculty. After ten years of its operation, it was renamed in 1960, to the Department of Agricultural Mechanisation – as a result of the growing number of scientific and educational tasks.

On 1 September 1966, within the Faculty of Agriculture there was a separate unit established – Agricultural Mechanisation. In 1968, the Department of Agricultural Mechanisation was transformed into the Institute of Agricultural Engineering and it was managed by prof. Janusz Haman.
