Title:

Response of the oxidoreductive system of turkeys fed diets with or without cocidiostat to early antibiotic treatment

The aim of the study is to extend the knowledge on the effects of early give of antibiotics to turkey chicks, most often as part of the so-called metaphilactics, as well as the continuous use of ionophore coccidiostats, which are also antibiotics, in feed mixtures for young turkeys. It is important in the context of contemporary challenges and problems of intensive poultry production. The realization of the project will serve to verify the hypothesis assuming that early antibiotic treatment through inhibition of yolk sac resorption and thus decreasing the transfer of maternal antibodies to the bloodstream may reduce humoral immunity in the first days of life of birds, and consequently deteriorate the functioning of the immune system (immunosuppression) and the antioxidant status of birds. Similar effects can be caused by feeding birds with mixtures containing coccidiostat, which is also an antibiotic.
