MA Tadeusz Grabowski,  under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Jóźwiakowski is implementing a project entitled

“Development and implementation of  system for the collection and use of rainwater for watering animals in the Roztocze National Park”

The project is financed by the Ministry of Science and Education from the “Implementation doctorate” program. The entity cooperating in the implementation of the project is the Roztocze National Park.

 Project title:

“Development and implementation of a system for the collection and use of rainwater for watering animals in the Roztocze National Park”

 Assumptions:

The implementation of the project as part of the implementation doctorate is the result of many years of cooperation between the University of  Life Sciences in Lublin and the Roztocze National Park. It is a response to the occurring climate changes, water scarcity and the occurrence of drought.

Comprehensive use of rainwater may limit the use of groundwater. It contributes to broadly understood water protection and preventing drought. It enables the use of rainwater for breeding, sanitary, technical and fire-fighting purposes in areas with water deficit.

Rainwater from the system can be additionally used in the naturalization of semi-natural and androgenic-turf meadow communities and pastures, as well as in the production of fertilizer from manure, which may be of great importance in the breeding and landscape system, especially in a naturally valuable area.

Purpose of research:

The implementation of the project as part of the implementation doctorate is aimed at reducing the consumption of high-quality water and the quantitative protection of groundwater resources, and the development of assumptions for the sustainable use of rainwater.

The experience to date shows that rainwater can be used, after treatment, for animal watering and sanitary purposes. It is presumed that rainwater in a naturally valuable area may be more useful for this purpose. After recognizing their physicochemical condition at the stage of acquisition, transport and collection, it will be possible to develop, implement and test the operation of a pilot installation for the collection and use of rainwater with a treatment system. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of rainwater will be compared with surface and groundwater in the catchment area of the Świerszcz stream, taking into account natural and breeding conditions.

Subject of implementation:

Sustainable rainwater management installation in the Florianka forest settlement at the Animal Breeding Center in the Roztocze National Park.

It is assumed that the installation will consist of 5 modules; obtaining, collecting, redistributing and treating water for watering animals, active nature protection – periodic supply of amphibian breeding sites, technical use of water for economic purposes (washing machines, watering lawns), sanitary use (flushing toilets in a container sanitary facility), fire protection.
