Department of Tourism and Recreation

The Department of Agritourism started its activity on September 1, 2005. Prof. dr hab. Bogusław Sawicki was appointed on the head. The Department of Agritourism was transformed into the Department of Tourism and Recreation on November 19, 2008.

Currently, 9 people work at the Department, and the head is dr. hab. Joanna Hawlena, prof. UP. Our employees are specialists in the fields of: economics, management, health sciences and physical culture, biology, and agriculture.

Department staff conduct classes in the following fields: Tourism and Recreation, Spatial Management, Physical Activity and Qualified Agritourism.

Tourism and recreation

First-cycle studies are 3-year full-time and part-time undergraduate studies – specializations:

  • Recreation and biological regeneration
  • Marketing and management in tourism

Second-cycle studies are 2-year full-time and part-time MA studies – specializations:

  • Tourism economy
  • Healthy lifestyle manager

The Department of Tourism and Recreation in cooperation with the Center for Continuing Education conducts Postgraduate Agricultural Studies for Graduates of Non-Agricultural Studies. The studies last two semesters. They cover basic knowledge in the field of: natural subjects, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, agroecology, organic farming, animal husbandry, activation of rural areas, agritourism, economics, environmental protection, basics of human nutrition, fruit and vegetable processing, dietetics and gastronomy and EU funds supporting development rural areas (More information in the postgraduate studies tab of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin).

The Department carries out the following research works:

  1. Inventory of the tourist potential of the Lubelskie Voivodeship, with particular emphasis on tourism in rural areas.
  2. Research on the motivations and preferences of customers using tourist services in the Lublin region (tourist demand).
  3. Research on the role of local governments, associations and tourist organizations in creating a regional and local tourist product.
  4. Research on the possibilities of implementing innovative types and forms of tourism in the Lublin region, which guarantee high tourist demand, develop the supply of tourist services and offer benefits to the society.
  5. Work on regional and local development strategies in the Lublin region.
  6. Research on the impact of tourism on the multifunctional development of rural areas in the Lublin region.
  7. Research on building the brand of Lublin tourism products and on tourism management in the region.
  8. SWOT analysis of local tourist destination areas.
  9. Tourist traffic in the Lublin region.
  10. Education of regional and local social forces in the field of tourism and recreation, with particular emphasis on rural tourism and agritourism.
