Looking through the perspective of the development and achievements of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, we can certainly assess the year 2024 as a good and successful one. The scientific and research achievements of our employees, the successes of our doctoral students and students, the dynamic and efficient activities of our administration and the investments and renovation works carried out entitle us to such an assessment. Fruitful cooperation with the socio-economic environment and high places in global university rankings testify to a favourable image and good recognition.

Our university made significant progress in the World University Ranking and was ranked among the 22% best universities in the world. The University of Life Sciences in Lublin was ranked between 76 in the Shanghai Ranking in Agricultural Sciences and 100 in the world and took second place among Polish universities.

Referring to the investments made, Rector Krzysztof Kowalczyk emphasised that ‘last year, a system for digital phenotyping of plants was installed. This is the only such device in Poland, which automatically analyses physiological characteristics, growth and morphology of the studied objects in specific light spectra, eliminating experimenter errors. This state-of-the-art system will certainly make the research work carried out at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin more dynamic and efficient, and will make a significant contribution to the generation of scientific progress and the development of staff and student education.’

Referring to the results of admission process and the implementation of the didactic process, the rector said, ‘We must all realise that the University of Life Sciences in Lublin is promoted by every employee, doctoral student and student. We promote the university with our activity, work, conduct and achievements in research, application, but also, and very importantly, in teaching. Careful attention must be paid to the proper implementation of the didactic process, because only with the knowledge and skills we properly impart to students we will be competitive in the admission process. We must demand from people with higher education the relevant knowledge, skills and competences, which are so necessary to create new values and to lead businesses, the economy and the country. This is the mission that all higher education institutions should pursue.

Concluding his speech, the rector thanked all the staff, doctoral students and students for their effective work and contribution to the development of the university and wished them ‘May the New Year 2025, a special jubilee year for our university, be better and more peaceful for the community of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin than the one that has passed. I wish you all prosperity, joy, mutual respect and understanding, serenity and hope, which we cannot lack, as well as determination and faith in your abilities. I wish you great ideas and success in your careers, in the acquisition and development of knowledge, and the fulfilment of your fondest dreams in your personal lives.’
