Visit of the professor Shubiao Wu from the Aarhus University in Denmark at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin as a part of the „Visiting Professors in Lublin” programme

From May 6th to 10th, 2025, our University had the pleasure of hosting Professor Shubiao Wu from the Department of Agroecology at Aarhus University in Denmark. His visit was made possible thanks to financial support from the City of Lublin as part of the 4th edition of the “Visiting Professors in Lublin” program.

Professor Shubiao Wu is a pioneer in the application of modern technologies for the restoration of wetlands. His research plays a key role in developing strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, particularly methane, and to improve nutrient recovery. These efforts represent significant progress in promoting environmental sustainability and resilience to climate change. Professor Wu is ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in his field, according to Stanford University, and is listed among the most highly cited researchers by Elsevier. He currently coordinates two HORIZON projects (“WET HORIZONS” and “NBS4Drought”), aimed at promoting wetland restoration across Europe, as well as the HORIZON MSCA project “NEUTEN,” which focuses on developing energy-neutral wastewater treatment technologies.

As part of his visit, Professor Shubiao Wu delivered a series of lectures addressed to the academic community, including faculty members, PhD candidates, and students. The visit also included a public popular science lecture for the residents of Lublin, titled “From Waste to Wonders: How Nutrient Recycling Can Make Our Cities Sustainable.”The visiting professor also took part in scientific research activities conducted in collaboration with the teams from the Department of Hydrobiology and Ecosystem Protection, the Department of Environmental Engineering, the Department of Grassland and Landscape Shaping, as well as the Polesie National Park. These activities were carried out within the framework of the HORIZON “NBS4Drought” project, which Professor Shubiao Wu coordinates.
