Scientific workshops, seminars, participation in an international conference, exchange of knowledge and experience, and an insight into the research potential of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin – these were the key elements of the visit of two researchers from the Czech Republic, who visited our University from 19 to 25 April 2026.

At the invitation of the Doctoral School of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, the University hosted Dr Karina Savvulidi Vargova from the Department of Pathophysiology, Laboratory of Molecular Mechanisms of Blood Diseases at Charles University in Prague, and Dr Filipp Georgijevič Savvulidi from the Department of Animal Science at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague.

The visit was funded by the Doctoral School of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin under the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” (IDUB) programme, which aims to support the development of universities’ research potential and strengthen their position in the international academic community.

The international guests were hosted and supported by Dr hab. Monika Greguła-Kania, University Professor, from the Department of Animal Breeding and Agricultural Advisory, Faculty of Animal Sciences and Bioeconomy, University of Life Sciences in Lublin.

A shared space for science and knowledge exchange

The programme of the visit included a range of scientific events addressed to doctoral students, students and academic staff of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin.

Dr Karina Savvulidi Vargova delivered scientific workshops as part of the International Workshops at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Poland, as well as seminars for doctoral students of the Doctoral School and university students. The meetings focused on “Non-coding RNAs overview and their role in leukemia”, exploring the role of non-coding RNAs in leukemia.

Dr Filipp Georgijevič Savvulidi, in turn, conducted workshops and seminars on “Laboratory diagnostics of livestock sperm quality”, focusing on laboratory methods used to assess sperm quality in farm animals.

Both meetings provided an opportunity to present current research topics, engage in scientific discussions and exchange knowledge and experience between the visiting researchers and the academic community of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin.

International conference and a meeting of young researchers

Dr Karina Savvulidi Vargova and Dr Filipp Georgijevič Savvulidi also participated in the 5th International PhD Students’ Conference: Environment–Plant–Animal–Product.

Dr Filipp Georgijevič Savvulidi additionally chaired the Animal Sciences session, actively contributing to the scientific programme of the conference and discussions on the research presented.

The participation of the visiting researchers provided an opportunity for young scientists from different academic institutions to meet, exchange experiences and establish new scientific contacts.

Laboratories and research facilities of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin

An important part of the visit was an opportunity for the guests to learn more about the research infrastructure of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin.

The researchers visited the laboratories of the Department of Animal Breeding and Agricultural Advisory and the experimental farm of the Prof. T. Efner Research Station, which is part of the Department.

The visit provided an opportunity to present the University’s research facilities, the scope of research activities conducted there and potential areas for scientific cooperation. The meetings also facilitated the exchange of experience in research methodologies and discussions on possible directions for future joint activities.

Discovering the Lublin region

The intensive scientific programme was complemented by an opportunity to explore Lublin and the Lublin region. The international guests had the chance to discover some of the region’s most important sites, learn about its history and culture, and appreciate the natural beauty of the Lublin region.

The visit was a valuable experience both for the visiting researchers and for the academic community of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin. The exchange of knowledge, experience and good practices, together with direct meetings with doctoral students and university students, provides a strong foundation for further developing international academic cooperation.

We hope that the April meeting will mark the beginning of further joint initiatives, research projects and activities aimed at strengthening cooperation between the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Charles University in Prague and the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague.

Science knows no borders – and the best ideas often emerge through meetings, conversations and the exchange of experience.
