Recording educational films about the dangers of Sosnowsky’s hogweed

Between 6 and 22 July 2026, field sessions were held to record educational films about threats, control methods, and eradication of Sosnowsky’s hogweed. These activities are part of the project “Protecting the biodiversity of cross-border territories of Ukraine and Poland from invasive hogweed (Heracleum) populations”

Recordings took place in four locations: Ustrzyki Dolne (Bieszczady Mountains), Końskowola, Werbkowice, and the Lublin area.

The scenarios for each film cover:

Film 1, “Invasive Alien Species – Threats and Control” – a presentation of Sosnowsky’s Hogweed as one of the most dangerous invasive species in Poland and Ukraine, its threat to humans and animals, and methods for controlling its spread,

Film 2, “Combating and Protection against Invasive Alien Species” – a presentation of methods for combating and protecting against Sosnowsky’s Hogweed, as well as procedures to follow in the event of contact with the plant,

Film 3, “Are Aliens Among Us? – A Biological Invasion” – a simple and accessible presentation of Sosnowsky’s Hogweed as a plant species that arrived in Poland as an “alien” and now threatens our native plant and animal species. The video will introduce and explain the concepts of native species, invasive alien species, and biodiversity. It will discuss the impact and characteristics of invasive species on biodiversity, using the example of Sosnowsky’s hogweed.

Film 4, “Recognizing and Reporting Invasive Alien Species,” –  discusses how to recognize Sosnowsky’s hogweed and report its new location using the app developed as part of the project.
