As a winner of the 6th edition of the “Staż za miedzą” competition organized by the Związek Uczelni Lubelskich, I completed a national internship at the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Medical University of Lublin. My supervisor was Prof. Izabela Korona-Głowniak, MD, PhD. I completed the internship from October 1st to December 31st.

During my internship, I was responsible for determining the MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) for fungal pathogens and the MBC (minimum bactericidal concentration). The analyses focused primarily on compounds from the 1,3,4-thiadiazole and coumarins groups and involved determining the concentration at which no pathogens were observed. Visual assessment of cell presence was supported by spectrophotometric measurements at a wavelength of 600 nm. The tested compound concentrations ranged from 0.45 to 1000 mg/ml. The species studied included Candida parapsilosis, C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. krusei, C. tropicalis, C. auris, and C. lusitaniae. The obtained results enabled the determination of the concentration for each analogue at which growth or inhibition of human fungal and bacterial pathogens occurred.
