From 14.08 – 14.11.2023, I completed an internship at the Institute of Animal Welfare Science, University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, Austria under the supervision of Dr Stephanie Lürzel.

1., 2. Entrance and inside of Institute of Animal Welfare Science.

I was involved and supported a PhD student from the Institute in the study, conducted as a part of the project „Vertical social transmission of the human-animal relationships”. The main tasks were preparation of the pens and selection of cows for the treatment, avoidance distance tests in the home pen and in a test environment.

3., 4.  Waiting for ‘Avoidance distance test”; settings control panel.

Other than improving knowledge of cattle behaviour, handling skills and understanding of experimental design, the trainee program has allowed me to develop a new practical skills. I have been trained in the use of the BORIS software for behavioural analysis.

6. Wiener Riesenrad (Prater)

The internship enabled me to network with the Institute’s staff and doctoral students and exchange valuable insights and comments on the research issues each is pursuing.
