From October 15, 2024, to November 15, 2024, we completed a research internship at the Department of Animal Nutrition and Nutritional Diseases, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Turkey. Our academic supervisor was Associate Professor Hıdır Gümüz, a specialist in ruminant nutrition.
The purpose of the trip was to deepen knowledge of laboratory analysis of feeds, learn about modern methods of assessing meat quality, and explore the procedure for assessing rumen digestibility of feeds using the in vitro method.

As part of the internship, a field trip was organized to a farm located on campus, which mainly kept dairy and beef cattle used in nutritional experiments. The trip enabled us to deepen our practical knowledge of rational ruminant husbandry, including the development of rations adapted to the needs of different technological groups of animals. We also gained skills related to feed management, including storage, feed circulation and organization of feeding based on available resources. In addition, the trip allowed us to learn about practical aspects of herd management, such as monitoring animal health, optimizing milk and meat production, and sustainable management of environmental resources. As a result, we were able to better understand the complexity of farm work and gain valuable practical experience.

In addition to the scientific part of the internship, we had the opportunity to discover the charms of Turkey, learn about its rich culture and taste the local cuisine.
