Meetings for International Students organized by Homo Faber Association

We are a human rights organization. For over 15 years, we have been supporting migrants in Lublin. For nearly 4 years, we have operated the Baobab community centre – a multifunctional space for integration. We are a non-profit organization.

We would like to invite you to our autumn series of information sessions:

I. Insurance in Poland
When – 3 November 2026
What time – 6pm
Where – Baobab, 39B Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, 20-002 Lublin

Having some form of insurance does not necessarily mean that every medical service in Poland is, or will be, available to you free of charge. The worst-case scenario is discovering this only when you receive an invoice from a hospital – a bill that could range from several thousand to even hundreds of thousands of zlotys. During this meeting, you will learn how the healthcare system in Poland works, how the public insurance system functions, who is entitled to what, and how to choose an insurance policy that actually provides the coverage you need.
The meeting will be held in Ukrainian and English.

II. Work in Poland
When – 17 November 2026
What time – 6pm
Where – Baobab, 39B Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, 20-002 Lublin

Are you working or planning to work in Poland? That’s great! Have you read your contract? Are you sure you understand the terms of employment it entails – as well as your rights? Do you know what all the clauses in your contract actually mean? They may not always be in your best interest. We will explain the differences between an
employment contract, a service contract (*umowa zlecenia*), and a specific-task contract (*umowa o dzieło*). During the meeting, you will also learn what steps to take if your employer fails to pay your wages or does not adhere to the agreed-upon terms.
The meeting will be conducted in both Polish and English.

III. Taxes in Poland
When – 24 November 2026
What time – 6pm
Where – Baobab, 39B Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, 20-002 Lublin

Do you take advantage of tax deductions? Keep in mind that the tax office may verify whether you were actually entitled to them for a given tax year. Being a parent does not automatically mean you are eligible for the family tax credit. Similarly, being under the age of 26 does not mean you are entirely exempt from income tax. If you work in Poland and file a PIT-37 tax return, this session is for you. You will learn about preferential tax filing options, available deductions, and potential pitfalls to watch out for when filing your annual tax return. The session is practical in nature.
The session will be conducted in Ukrainian and English.

IV. Safety in Poland
When – 1 December 2026
What time – 6pm
Where – Baobab, 39B Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, 20-002 Lublin

Text messages alerting to the threat of an air attack. Warning sirens. Apps that notify you of danger or help you locate safe spaces. A practical guide… It is worth knowing, worth being prepared, and worth reading information with a critical, informed eye. An educational session for residents on how to act in emergency situations will be led by the team from the Department of Security and Crisis Management of the Lublin City Office.
The session will be held in Polish and Ukrainian. A session in English is currently being prepared.
