MSc Eng. Konrad Niedźwiadek – Research and Development Specialist at Margomed S.A.
Employment: Margomed S.A. (E. Plewińskiego St. 16, 20-270 Lublin, Poland)
Supervisor: Prof. Magdalena Polak-Berecka, PhD
Discipline: Biological Sciences
Project Title:
“Development of a Biofilm Removal Method and Implementation of a Cleaning System for Production Equipment at Margomed”
Project Funding:
The project is funded by the Ministry of Education and Science under the “Industrial PhD” program.
Collaborating Entity:
Margomed S.A.
Description and Expected Outcomes:
The project aims to develop innovative, effective, and safe methods for eliminating biofilm and preventing its reformation on production equipment used in the manufacturing of medical tubing. Biofilm, a significant challenge in microbiology and medicine, is responsible for numerous issues, including increased bacterial resistance to chemical agents and antibiotics. The project focuses on creating an innovative active substance with antimicrobial and anti-adhesive properties for use in Clean-in-Place (CIP) systems.
The developed technology will be implemented in an ISO 8 class clean-room environment at Margomed, improving disinfection standards, and enhancing the efficiency of medical product manufacturing processes. A key component of the project is the development of a multi-component formulation with synergistic action, surpassing the effectiveness of traditional disinfection methods and surface protection techniques.
Planned research will include advanced molecular and surface analyses to better understand the mechanisms behind biofilm formation. By utilizing optimization techniques such as Design of Experiments (DOE), the composition and operational parameters of the formulation will be precisely tailored to meet the requirements of the production environment.
