On April 19-20, 2023, the second edition of the International PhD Student’s Conference “2nd International PhD Student’s Conference at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Poland: ENVIRONMENT-PLANT-ANIMAL-PRODUCT (ICDSUPL)” was held, organized by the Doctoral School and the Doctoral Students’ Government of the University of Life Science in Lublin.

The conference was officially opened by the Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation, Ph.D. Bartosz Sołowiej, Assoc. prof. The opening was also attended by: a representative of the Lublin City Hall, Dr. Eng. Mariusz Sagan and the Chairman of the National Representation of Doctoral Students, pilot Michał Klimczyk.

The inaugural lectures were delivered by:

• Todor Vasiljevic (College of Health and Biomedicine Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia) entitled “Structure, function and relationship of Proteins – Current Research Direction”. 
• Ph.D. Viktor Korzun (Global Lead Scientific Affairs, KWS SAAT SE & Co. KGaA, Germany) entitled “Public-Private-Partnership in plant research and plant breeding”. 
• Dr. Laura Wendling (VTT Technical Research Center of Finland LTD, Finland) entitled “The role of nature-based solutions within Europe’s green transition”. 

The event was honored with an artistic performance by the band Klasyczni w Rocku, composed of employees of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin. The surprise was the performance of the vocal duo of Ph.D. Bartosz Sołowiej, Assoc. prof. – Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation and prof. Ph.D. Katarzyna Ognik – Director of the Doctoral School.

During the conference, a competition was organized entitled: “Greenwashing – a threat to ecology?”, which was assessed by a group of experts and selected the winners:

• 1st place – Sebastian Kuśmierz
• 2nd place – Marcin Kondracki
• 3rd place – Aleksandra Marzec

Honorable mentions – Radosław Smagieł and Robert Waraczewski

About 400 people participated in the conference.

The conference participants represented the following countries: Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Angola, Finland, Germany, Australia, Serbia, Iraq, Portugal.

Doctoral students presented scientific research in six thematic sessions: Animal Sciences, Plant Sciences, Food Technology, Environment, Technology, Basic Sciences and Health Sciences.

Awards for the best presentations in individual sections went to: Michalina Pinkosz (Basic Sciences and Health Sciences session), Krzysztof Stawrakakis (Plant Sciences session), Álvarez Ana (Environment session), Grigaleviciute Ramune (Animal Science session), Trendak Michał (Technology session), Vasiliauskaite Agne (Food Technology session).

Prizes for the most interesting presentation of research in the form of posters went to: Abdualhamid Alsharif, Weronika Giedrojć, Kamila Janicka, while distinctions went to: Lebednikaite Egle, Łukasz Szymański and Wiktoria Janicka.

During the event, Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation, Ph.D. Bartosz Sołowiej, Assoc. prof. together with the Director of the Doctoral School prof. Ph.D. Katarzyna Ognik, distinguished 11 doctoral students of the Doctoral School of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin. Congratulatory letters with gifts were received by:

• for scientific activities: Partycja Skowronek, Wiktoria Janicka, Krzysztof Kowal, Artur Ciszewski, Michał Arciszewski, Maciej Bryś, Sebastian Kuśmierz;

On the second day of the conference, interdisciplinary workshops were held conducted by the National Representation of Doctoral Students, represented by the Chairman, M.Sc. Eng. Michał Klimczyk and the Ombudsman for Doctoral Students’ Rights, pr. Wojciech Kiełbasiński, which concerned, among others, rights and obligations of a doctoral student. Conference participants also had the opportunity to visit ZOOM Nature Park in Janów Lubelski.
