{"id":453176,"date":"2024-09-24T08:36:43","date_gmt":"2024-09-24T06:36:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/up.lublin.pl\/blog\/maciej-brys-msc-freie-universitat-berlin-germany\/"},"modified":"2025-01-17T08:38:25","modified_gmt":"2025-01-17T07:38:25","slug":"maciej-brys-msc-freie-universitat-berlin-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/up.lublin.pl\/en\/blog\/maciej-brys-msc-freie-universitat-berlin-germany\/","title":{"rendered":"Maciej Bry\u015b, MSc, Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin, Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"453176\" class=\"elementor elementor-453176 elementor-453155\" data-elementor-settings=\"[]\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-section-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-b139070 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"b139070\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-9607e70\" data-id=\"9607e70\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-71f5300 elementor-widget elementor-widget-m5c\" data-id=\"71f5300\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"m5c.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<section class=\"mn-m5-c mn-m5-d2 mn-bg-white\">\n\t<div class=\"mn-grid\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"mn-content mn-grid-9\">\n\t\t\t                <div class=\"mn-content-block active\">\n\t                                                        <div class=\"block-text\">\n\t                                        <p>From 2<sup>nd <\/sup>September to 16<sup>th<\/sup> September, third-year PhD student Maciej Bry\u015b participated in a&nbsp;research internship at the <strong>Institute of Veterinary Biochemistry at Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The main goal of the visit was to become familiar with methods used in molecular biology for studying the genetic material of the honeybee.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/up.lublin.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/MB_Fot-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-453161\" src=\"https:\/\/up.lublin.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/MB_Fot-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1440\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Poland, Germany, and across Europe, there are issues related to the decline in biodiversity of pollinating insects, linked to bacterial, viral, and fungal diseases in bees, as well as the use of pesticides and large-scale farming, which leads to a&nbsp;reduction in insect diversity.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/up.lublin.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/mb_Fot-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-453165\" src=\"https:\/\/up.lublin.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/mb_Fot-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1536\" height=\"2048\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The objectives of the internship included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>learning molecular biology techniques used in honeybee research,<\/li>\n<li>discussing and confronting scientific viewpoints,<\/li>\n<li>establishing scientific relationships,<\/li>\n<li>developing soft skills,<\/li>\n<li>overcoming the language barrier in using English,<\/li>\n<li>learning about international cultures and customs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During the internship:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I learned RNA isolation techniques from different parts of the honeybee\u2019s body,<\/li>\n<li>I became familiar with RT-PCR techniques,<\/li>\n<li>I conducted gene expression analyses using the RT-qPCR method,<\/li>\n<li>I participated in an institute workshop titled \u201cTraining and expression profiling using bee total RNA.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The university has its own research apiary.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/up.lublin.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/mb_Fot-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-453169\" src=\"https:\/\/up.lublin.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/mb_Fot-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1536\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In summary, the internship at the Institute of Biochemistry provided an opportunity to become acquainted with modern techniques for studying gene expression related to insect immunity. I&nbsp;gained practical skills in RNA isolation from bee tissues.
